How does that help shareholders. I suppose on that dividends are better then buyback then. Am I right?

Hmm.. When is the next update for this share, I suppose if they can show free cash flow the share price will inflate but again the debt stands in the way. it looks like Tullow is in a hard place they still need to invest in future reserves but they also need to bring down debt to give the market confidence that there plan is working.

I am quite new to this only started investing last year. I am not trying to find anything in particular I suppose I was just trying to see if the buy backs were having a effect on the share price. I was also trying to see how companies do the buy backs. I suppose if shell just bought 2 billion worth of shares in 1 go a regulator somewhere would not be happy with them. On the other hand I was trying to see if they are trying to keep the share price within a range to give shareholders some benefit.

Can you tell me how I can see the difference between a normal buy and a buy back by the company please?

I only started investing in shares last year. I fear that I am one of the people that is getting over excited. At this time I cannot see how I can loose. If I hold the shares I can see that dividends will only raise from a low base. If I sell the shares I will lock in big profits. Hard to make a choice at the moment as all I have seen, through mostly luck on when I entered the market is rising share prices. Any advice is welcome!

Does anyone know when the shell buybacks start?
