That makes about 625 job losses from the peak. Economic sense for us, but no laughing matter for the individuals and their families involved, struggling to put food on the table in a desperately poor country.
We are thus reminded here today to pay heartfelt respects to our honoured unemployed. And yet it should be noted, in the midst of our sorrow, these job losses takes place in the shadow of new life, the sunrise of a new mining world; a world that our beloved comrades gave their jobs to protect and nourish. They did not feel this sacrifice a vain or empty one, and we should not debate their profound wisdom with these proceedings.
Now, for us, it's second star to the right - and straight on till morning.
