I am convinced that at some stage Newcrest will buy the rest of Havieron. I don't believe they will allow GGP to block 100% this asset that has the potential to transform Telfer and NCM's earnings especially if NCM cover their Telfer hedge and smashed down on AISC at Telfer. The uplift from the high grade nature of Hav, coupled with zero hedge at Telfer and a lower AISC are tempting reasons to buy our 30% with a huge wad of cash..imvho

From an exploration geologist's perspective this conclusion from a 1997(?) NCM report is worth bringing up again.

Second: Magnetic base to the first report by NCM post JV in 2019.

Will the mineralisation extend beyond the magnetics? It will be tested in due course... The magnetics are dominantly related to the iron sulphide pyrrhotite (assumption by me - based on photo below (Hole 5 ? crescent sulphide intersection) and no mention of significant magnetite that I have noticed).

If it doesn't the "crescent sulphide zone" (purple dots) may become an ellipsoid around multiple breccia zones and one zone of very special high grade Cu/Au alteration.

Drilling does seem to have closed off the mineralisation to the south although the magnetic anomaly is present. Plunge or dip at depth?

Sulphide rich, variably brecciated sediments with zones of possible dykes (Lime green - thin possible, thick probable), variable alteration. Visible sulphide type(s) - Probably pyrite and ??pyrrhotite with some chalcopyrite (bottom tray). Complex zone that is possibly more representative of the breccia halo rather than the thinner crescent sulphide zone. Comments on photos should be treated with caution as they may be way off the mark.

AZY (ARV and others? as well) are applying the lessons learned at Havieron and as Shines2 mentioned there are definite synergies for the various JV's if data are shared.

Just added rough estimates of cover to this figure. The northern targets MD &2 are likely to have 200+m of cover.
At 420m or so of cover Havieron's magnetic signature is something for the geophysicists to use when comparing to possible analogues with shallower cover that will modify the response to some extent.

Chances of success finding another big one? Reasonable given the basin wide nature and varieties of mineralisation.

That Rio are going back to "the bird in the hand" Calibre/Magnum deposits suggests, at some level, that it may not be as easy as finding another Winu in that area.

Well funded exploration on top of luck/serendipity was always needed to crack open the Paterson under cover. AZY are well positioned.

**I looked for a context to this new discovery and found this plan view in NCM's release (this, or a variant, will be in GGP's as well).

While this is a new breccia zone locally at Havieron the regional significance is yet to be explored. It does add to the approach that was announced for the Wilki prospect earlier this week but only time will tell how regionally applicable it is.

Transferring this data to earlier images with geophysics and more limited drilling gives an idea of the progression that has occurred here since GGP and then their JV with NCM have come.

First: NCM early drilling and the first five GGP holes on (early?) gravity + magnetics.

The new discovery appears to be part of the existing geophysical anomaly and therefore IMO is a local feature that may, or may not, have regional implications.
Multiple breccia pipes are not uncommon in porphyry systems which, although different to Havieron geology, may give some analogue as to what is happening here.
As per the "conclusion" below I have tried to show how close the initial NCM 1990's + holes came to the "goodies". The white highlighted zone on the inclined holes is relatively short compared to the pre-collar in the 400m cover. Given such limited testing at high cost how much faith does the board/management give to the exploration team? NCM decided to walk away only to come back in 15 or so years later. Looks like they will be at Havieron for many years to come.
AZY are the operators of the Wilki JV with NCM. How much information will NCM share with them about the nature of this beast at Havieron? Not to would seem to be counterproductive though it is relatively common in industry - Rio Winu and example? If they do share then AZY gain from it.**
