Drilling of the first well showed positive visible results for the presence of copper sulfide. The exploration is carried out in the Andean Copper Belt, which is presumed to host large mineral deposits.
September 15, 2020 will be registered as a milestone for the activities of the Porvenir project, located in Zamora Chinchipe and in charge of the subsidiary Green Rock Resources SA That day, as announced by Andy Taunton, vice president of SolGold, the campaign for drilling, after all approvals have been received from the competent authorities for the mining sector in Ecuador.
The first well drilled at the Porvenir Project, at Cacharposa (previously Target 15), intersected 893.4 meters of visible copper sulfide mineralization, hosted by potassium-rich intrusions. “The discovery is an extraordinary achievement that, we believe, represents another large porphyry copper-gold deposit and the second major discovery of this nature for the company, demonstrating the paramount importance of regional exploration to SolGold's corporate strategy. and for its shareholders. It should be added that on October 12, 2020, the drilling of the second well began from the same platform, ”said Taunton.
The Porvenir project is in the initial exploration phase, with the necessary permits and authorizations to carry out 'scout drilling'. The final results of the laboratory analysis of the first hole will indicate the mineralization it contains. These will be available in the following weeks and are expected to confirm the great potential of the operation, after the initial visual analysis.
Activities began as part of an initial planned 8,000 meter drilling program. As of press time, it was planned to mobilize a second drilling rig in the same area at the end of October and locate it approximately 230 meters west-northwest of the initial well, with a view to testing the center and west of the system. of mineralization. In addition, it is expected to have another two rigs until the end of the year. The initial drilling program is part of a larger 16-month, 50,000-meter program, scheduled through December 2021.
The start of mineralization is several meters from the surface, which would facilitate the potential exploitation of a deposit in the future. Porvenir is located in an important Ecuadorian metallogenic section, in the Andean Copper Belt, which is home to some of the largest and most significant deposits of copper and gold in Ecuador, Colombia, Peru, Argentina and Chile.
