RE: Remembrance10 Nov 2024 09:05
Thank you one and all for your kind words and comments, which are much appreciated.
Finished work at 7am got home and ironed my shirt etc, caught a few hours kip, shower, dressed and on the road for 12.45, beat most of the traffic, got to the Stadium and managed to get parked adjacent to the main entrance, I couldn't believe that I saw Cleveland Corps of Drums marching off the pitch, so after hugs and handshakes made my way up to the Corporate suit, walked in and was amazed how many people who'd turned up from all over the country, buglers and musicians.
The band had played earlier so I had missed that.
Then they had drawn lots for the buglers before I had arrived, so I wasn't going to play, I counted 14 buglers most of whom I know, so we managed to get pitch side and the 2 buglers from 8 rifles and 4 Association buglers smashed it .
3 of them are Veteran's of The Royal Green Jackets, and great guys they are too, one of them is lucky to be alive after a mortar fired into Camp Bastion during the night, which hit Scott and he lost part of lung and he amazed the medics with the level of recovery he achieved, however his bugle didn't make as it was torn to shreds.
The people of Sunderland, through the Club have really embraced the spirit of Remembrance through football.
Incidentally todays Service which is held near the city centre is the largest Parade outside of London.
I'm unable to attend the Cathedral as my DBS hasn't arrived, so there will be 3 very capable teenagers playing Last Post, as for me I'm going to surprise St Stephen's Church where I was christened, I get asked every year so when I'm available I play in the church yard where we have a small War Grave and Memorial.
So I will be back again on tomorrow.
