Limestone (CaCO3) reacts with Sulphuric acid to produce calcium sulphate, carbon dioxide and water. The calcium sulphate is insoluble and hence tends to form a coating around the remaining limestone inhibiting the reaction. Reetech can you tell me how much more acidic a solution of pH 1.0 is than one of pH 4.0 .
