Lol OilG, i bet they didn't let him use the drivers toilets.
Sundays ?
Well done Wolves, although I think that you exaggerated slightly with the 357 days a year delivery.
I'm quite excited, but I don't really get out much.
I here that Rico is embarking on a tour of mail centres to put his ideas across to postie's. Negative impact on productivity short term as they will be spending the day sweeping up, dusting and painting the walls.
BWD.
Accept
He will negotiate if CWU except his business plan.
Wolves, if he worked hard for 3 hours and did a good job with my garden I would pay the 5 hours. But only if he were a member of a union.
I agree with the ballot as a show of strength and bargaining chip but an actual strike would be a mistake. Get a large yes vote the negotiate.
I spy, the basic are paid meal breaks, sick pay, allowances, annual pay rises and pensions. Those are the things to fight for. Stopping the business excercise development plans smacks of delusions of grandeur. After all rightly or wrongly Rico is doing what he thinks will generate the biggest profit, which will benefit shareholders and employees alike.
Mad, they are not following the agreement in several ways but the sww was not set in stone if you look at that part of the agreement.
Postie's got a good deal but at the cost of their pensions. A massive mistake imho. CWU should threaten to scrap the whole 2017 deal. The pension is the only thing under attack worth striking for. I'm a great believer in unions, any employee would be foolish not to be in one, but CWU need to pick their battles because this one could be very different from the last. PF will be sold off, no stopping it. If I was head of the union I would call for a work to rule rather than a strike and see what effect that has.
You asked for a list and I gave one. Not saying it will happen or I agree with it. I think that the union is over stepping the mark asking for a say in Rico's plan. They should concentrate on terms and conditions and let Rico get on with making profit. CWU can't stop a sell off of PF. They should batton down the hatches and defend the basics rather than have a fight they cannot win imho.
OliG, management can sack strikers. They send them a letter and then refuse them entry, simple. Strikers would win a case of unfair dismissal, however they would have the stress of being out of work for months while the case was resolved.
A lockout and ban overtime, plenty of people to step in your shoes and could be done out of spite at any cost.
The point of lieu is to take them when you needs them not later..
20 minutes break a day is much less than you get now.
Stricter discipline is applying existing rules so you wouldn't have a leg to stand on. I once worked somewhere that had a no smoking policy on site and someone got sacked for smoking in their car.
As I said plenty management can do if things get dirty.
What percentage of postie's will be on strike if they get a letter threatening dismissal and after their one day strike they are locked out for a month without pay? Or they start getting sacked for coming back 2 minutes late from a their 20 minute once a day break?
Hopefully some good news on the day. Exciting times!
Mad, I believe that everyone has the right to withdraw their labour but a list? Ok.
Sack strikers for breach of contract.
A lockout.
Ban overtime.
Cancel lieu day allocation.
Stop smoke breaks.
Cancel grace breaks.
Stricter discipline for those breaking the rules.
Not sure how the law stands on check off these days? Maybe RM have to collect subs?
Lots that RM can do to attack union, depends how dirty it gets.
Oh and 80% yes vote is my prediction.
for the weekend. Shame about the drop late on, still a good week though.
Regarding strike action, in one corner we have Back and his team and in the other corner we have Pullinger and his team. I would pick out Stuart Simpson in Rico's corner and Chris Webb in Terry's. Both smart with good communication skills.
With the CWU having its nose pushed out and RMG refusing to compromise, a strike is now inevitable. RMG will play for time and CWU won't want to strike in December preferring to wait until next year's general election to give the Conservatives a kick in the teeth and create a mess that should help out Corbyn. I wonder how many postie's know that part of their weekly union subs go to support Corbyn btw.
Rico and his team are used to dealing with dissidents, with union reps being sacked and a death on the picket line and Simpson knows the workings of CWU and can be ruthless.
Terry is a great speaker and rabble rouser and Webb good at getting his point across. I thought Terry's " smash Royal Mail to peices" speech was fabulous.
My money is on Rico but it's going to be a great battle to watch. All IMHO.
