I have just bought 50000 LST shares and the transaction is shown as a sale!

All shares go ex-dividend on Thursdays. The NWG share goes ex-dividend on Thu 14 March. The record date is Friday 15 March. Anyone buying the shares on 14 March will NOT receive the dividend and the price will often be lower to reflect this.

Anyone wishing to receive the dividend will have to buy or own the shares on Wed 13 March.

Why the significant fall today? - there doesn't seem to be any unfavorable news.

And precisely which company do you think would make the largest takeover ever by bidding for AZN?

I've just entered at 858p. I have held Pru in the past and have seen some optimistic forecasts for the company in 2024 and the broker consensus is STRONG BUY. Hope for a decent tax free profit in 2024 in my ISA!

Despite having invested in the Stock Market for over 50 years I've never owned a share that was subject to three different bids.

I wasn't too keen on the original bid which entailed the selling off of the dealerships and the change of name and nature of the business and would have preferred a straightforward cash offer.

I am now puzzled that there are now two offers both for 32p. I previously commented that I thought that PDG might go for 35p but now consider that a higher price might be achievable. Having initially purchased at around 17p mid-year and topped up later at around 23p giving an average price of approx. 20.25p I'm staying on for the ride!

I think that Hedin will make a further bid at around 35p. I invested in Lookers a couple of years ago and have made a killing on that. My Pendragon shares cost an average of approx. 20p and I have recently topped-up my Vertu holding and invested in Inchcape. Who would have thought a few months ago that there would be so much activity in this sector and that few cos. will remain listed on the UK market.

I think Hedin will come back with a higher offer around 35p. Having made a killing investing in Lookers I very much hope so!

When shares go ex-div the price usually falls by the amount of the dividend to reflect this. My wife and I have B&M in our ISAs and I bought some in my SIPP for the special dividend.

I think the judge is right. I wouldn't trust Mooky out of my sight. He wrecked the company by getting so much in debt. I most reluctantly sold out at 20p and suffered a substantial loss. There will be nothing for shareholders in the end I wager.

I only have 15 shares but received £35-82 in my ISA A/c held with Redmayne Bentley stockbrokers.
Might buy more to take holding to a realistic number following the recent fall.
With the benefit of hindsight would have piled into these at the time of the split!

To suggest that they will always be in business is a very bold statement. I started my business career with ICI - a company about which many might have made a similar statement - and look what happened to that company!

The current share price at ca. 474p is somewhat below the bid price equivalent to 504p. At 504p I shall still be losing approx. £500 on my original investment.
I am wondering whether to increase my stake in order to avoid any loss or even make a small profit. The risk of course is that the bid does not materialise and the price falls

I have been an AstraZeneca shareholder since the merger with Astra and a Zeneca shareholder from the days when the company was created out of ICI.
At the time of the ICI split Zeneca were around £6-50 so in 30 years or thereabouts the price has increased to > £100-.00.
Compare and contrast that with the performance of GSK shares.
Having said that I did invest in GSK relatively recently and am sitting on a 25% profit. Now I am minded to sell having read that the new company will be loaded with debt. I am not too happy that Emma Walmsley will continue to run the pharmaceuticals business either.
In view of the current rates of interest and the fact that those who have taken over ASDA and Morrisons and loaded them up with debt have "caught a cold" I am not comfortable with this approach.

I have been a lifelong Telegraph reader. The paper has some great journalists not least those contributing to the City pages.
However, they occasionally have to admit that they made the wrong call when tipping shares and recommend holders to sell at a loss.

Having done very well during lockdown investing in Codemasters who were taken over and doubled my investment, Sumo who have received a bid from Tencent and Team 17, I thought that I would have a punt on Tinybuild.
However, following a discussion with my broker at Redmayne Bentley, I decided not to go ahead with a purchase as it was too complicated.

Too many Boards have been willing to accept the first bid - often made by Private Equity sharks. That is why an alarming number of British cos. have been acquired by US companies at bargain prices.
It makes one wonder why Directors rarely hold out for more. As someone who was extensively involved in negotiating during my working life, I wouldn't accept the first offer made!
In my case as a small shareholder one or two of these bids have been below the price I paid for the shares as the low share price laid them open to opportunistic bids.

I'm hanging on to mine, I don't think this will be the final outcome.

Sold my entire holding at just over 1058p on Friday and banked a profit of >£3k - an excellent return in 9 months.
In view of the caveats and the fact that some major holders were unhappy with the higher bid I decided that it was perhaps time to sell.
I had also identified a couple of alternative investment opportunities so we move on .......

Isn't it somewhat unusual for a bidder to make an announcement like this?
I don't think this will be enough to satisfy the major shareholders who are unhappy with the current offer.
I had been considering selling half of my holding when the price was in the 1050's. As it fell towards the current offer price I changed my mind as I wondered whether a higher bid might be forthcoming given that the price was above the offer price.
