I think MM is using a gestetner . First you have to type out the RNS on a two filmed sheet, (any errors you have to start again) and them smear black ink over a couple of rollers, add the two pages to the roller and crank a handle. When the handle turns the roller turn and presses the ink through the hand typed letter to print on the paper. Very 1980's, used one when I was in the Navy Dell boy!
