To add some more meat to the bone.
Research tells me that the line wire is carried out, after the drilling equipment has been removed from the well.
Hence the line wire became stuck, no doubt due to the ground geology, which we have no control, side wall collapse!, This problem is esasibated if a problem arises with a delay in actually running the line wire, ( power cut etc.) Added to this we had side wall collapse indicated.
To further add to the problems encountered, this line wire has to be removed, and cannot be left in situ, this therefore logically tells us why a further attempt wasn't made.
As already alluded to all that we would have needed was two navvies a few crates of beer with a pick and two shovel's to dig it out.
Now I can only imagine the vitriol if we had proceed with another line wire, and ended up with DusterDave having to spend a few million removing said equipment, it would have gone on for days if not weeks.
