Here’s the latest — based strictly on current evidence from 2025–2026 government and industry sources.
✅ Will helium be added to the critical minerals list?
🇺🇸 United States
Right now, helium is not on the U.S. Critical Minerals List, and recent updates confirm that it continues to be excluded.
Evidence:
The 2025 USGS Draft and Final Critical Minerals Lists did not include helium, despite industry pressure. [akapenergy.com], [federalregister.gov]
Helium was removed from the list in 2022 and has not been reinstated. [akapenergy.com]
In March 2026, Avanti Helium again urged the U.S. government to designate helium as critical due to rising supply risks — meaning the designation still has not happened. citeturn1search9turn1search19
Bottom line (U.S.):
➡️ Not currently on the list.
➡️ Strong industry pressure exists, especially with global helium shortages and semiconductor supply chain risks, but no indication yet that the USGS plans to add helium in the next update.
