It was TC who created this when the bought MyTravel and put it onto BS instead of declaring it as cost of purchase
Eg buy a house for £4billion but dont declare it against profits
now they have determined that 'house' is not worth £4b it is worth £3b (probably much less actually)
So they have been forced to show it as a cost (more potentially could be written off)
Basically the cash left the business 15 - 20 years ago and it has never been shown as a cost

The previous article suggested that the marketing campaign was positive, in that they had received some cash injection and it was not to offload distressed stock

The other article is of the opinion that the marketing is not a desperate attempt to clear stock, however this one clearly states it is. As is the case with the whole market TUI are doing the same. Holiday companies only run ads this time of the year when they have stock to sell, an indication that sales have not gone well.
