Terraplane- Don't forget Britain was an empire once. How many so called " sovereign" nations were invaded by Britain? it wasn't long ago, Britain had to send out a task force to the Falkland islands, over thousands of miles away, to defend merely a few hundreds of "british " people. So you have the right to protect yourself but nobody else has? I don't think we should go down this road. Unfortunately, Superpowers make their own rules., mate. If you live next door to a superpower, there are certain rules you must observe. You think you can trust the US more than Russia? Try to get on the wrong side of any one of them, you will pay a heavy price. That is life.
Ukraine must learn to stay independent and neutral. Know yourself and know your enemy , you will win every battle.

Again, I have to make clear that I am not a fan of Putin. But I think he has got genuine concerns over national security. The US is about to park missiles on his doorsteps. What do you expect?

Russian people should have a bigger share of wealth of the country, deserve a better standard of living. Putin is a dictator , no doubt, but unfortunately this system seems to give better stability to Russia. ( Eg. Iraq). He has brought Russia from the brink of bankruptcy after the cold war to where it is now, No. 6 on economy.
Compare that to the US ( the deep state if you prefer) , first man on the moon now can't hardly send a rocket into space.
