Navion Oceania is now leaving the field
She’s still hooked up to AM but shouldn’t be for too much longer
She’s still hooked up and has been since lunchtime
Destination changed to Lancaster field 0800hrs.
AHTS vessel hired for the rig move commencing 14th December are the “Far Sigma”, “Far Sapphire” and “Seim Opal”. Weather in field has been playing havoc with vessel and helicopter operations but looking better from tomorrow and into the weekend.
The flare that was sighted certainly wasn’t BS, infact there’s a good quality dated photo online of it if anyone wants to look hard enough for it.
I’d say most likely the Hermit Horizon is just at standby for the time being whilst the rig crew prepare more gear for backloading to the vessel as they de-mob. Also, H.H was hired as a direct replacement for Rem Trader which is out of action at the moment for repairs. The requirement was for a vessel for supply duties only.
I’d imagine that if HH was to be fitted with an ROV there would have been a requirement for PSV for supply/ROV duties on the spot market.
With fitting of ROV gear to a PSV the vessel would then need to carry extra crew/clients to operate the ROV equipment as the vessels own crew would not be doing this, I’m not sure what the crew capacity of HH is.
I’d think that during the de-mobbing process all available deck space would be utilised for backload hence why three PSV’s have been alongside T/O in recent days. Also the HH didn’t leave Aberdeen with ROV gear on board as far as I’m aware, it was a quick on hire, load and sail. Weather forecast looking poorer for the week from later in the day so it’s possible that all PSV’s on location will be keen to “get finished” and get away before the weather turns for the worse.
I wouldn’t read anything into the position of the Hermit Horizon, she’s not rigged for ROV work, neither is any of the vessels on hire to Hurricane.
As already stated on here a few days ago, Hermit Horizon is a Platform Supply Vessel, not a fire fighting vessel. The fire fighting capability is just an added extra which is quite common on supply vessels these days. She’s been alongside working cargo, nothing else so no worries on that front.
Sovereign now on way to Transocean Leader after her pit stop at AM.
The price of PSV spot hire is ridiculously cheap these days, some boats taking spot hires as low as £5k per day. During the oil crash it there was boats sailing for as low as £1-2k per day. Joys of mostly foreign ships with foreign crews working in the industry now holding the price down.
Incorrect, first and foremost she is a supply vessel, the fire fighting notation is just an “added extra”. It’s quite common for supply vessels these days to have firefighting notation by installation of a fire canon on the bridge top and whatever else is needed to meet the criteria. others can also be utilised for standby/ERRV duties. Ships in the oil industry are becoming more multi role nowadays.
The Hermit Horizon is a Supply Vessel, she’s taken over from the Rem Trader for the time being as the Rem Trader is in Drydock in Aberdeen.
Ships and rigs/platforms have their own internet/WiFi and phone systems in place, crew/personnel will have access to these.
She’s closed in to 0.5 miles in the last while from being sat a mile off earlier, no doubt be commencing work through the night. Flare has only just been shut off, perhaps Diego is kicking about tonight to confirm also.
Flaring shut down again Just now and Sovereign closing in.
Slip, And I replied to you stating that it could possibly have been Friday evening shut down but it was Saturday afternoon before I’d witnessed it myself and the last time I’d seen it lit was some point on Friday. I’m not awake 24/7 to see everything and to be honest wasn’t paying attention to timings anyway.
Slip,
“ The KBJ manoeuvered alongside the TOL first thing Saturday morning, took what I assume to be a part load and has remained in attendance since."
If the KBJ remained in 'close' attendance throughout today, not sure how a flare would have been reported today?”
You’re post seems to have been a little misinterpreted by a couple of us and have taken it as you stating that KBJ has been alongside since Saturday and wondered why it’s possible a flare could be seen today. I was simply stating what I’ve seen myself today as I can see what position ships are in and whether flaring is in progress or not.
The KBJ is “on location” but at standby at present along with the Sovereign. There is no boats working alongside T/L at present and flare is lit. Possibly an indication of flaring shutdown will be when a PSV moves alongside.
Slip, I can’t recall what time i last seen the flare on Friday so I guess it was shutdown on Friday night, it was Saturday afternoon before I noticed it wasn’t lit and see again that it’s currently lit again.
