Despite the limited review granted I reckon the denial of depublication strongly reinforces the decision in favor of Reabold. Reabold can demand payment, as the previous rulings still stand and can be enforced, even as Sunflower tries to challenge some aspects through the Supreme Court’s review. You never know wouldn't want to short this now.

If the Supreme Court had denied the petition outright, Sunflower might have at least walked away without the precedent gaining reinforcement through the Supreme Court’s involvement. Now, not only does the precedent stand but it has the potential to be upheld on further review, which could make it even harder to contest in the future.

Also consider this... By denying the depublication request, the lower court’s decision remains a precedent in California case law. This means future litigants, be it oil companies or regulators they can rely on this decision to counter Sunflower’s or other similar organisations legal challenges.

What's worse for some now is that the denial of the petition would have left Sunflower without any legal foothold, ending their case outright and forcing them to pay Rehobold's awarded costs and legal fees immediately.

The limited review now traps them in a narrow argument, meaning they’ll spend more resources defending a smaller scope without much hope for reversal.
