The latest Investing Matters Podcast episode featuring Jeremy Skillington, CEO of Poolbeg Pharma has just been released. Listen here.
Exactly FF23, Kallak can't remain our sole focus forever. Kurt has diversified the company into other areas relating to mining. Further up the chain. It feels like we will have a finger in the pie all the way to production
Well that's yet to be seen I suppose...I would be very annoyed and deflated but for now I'm taking his word for it.
Some Swedes on FB has listened to the radio interview and say that Thor mentioned nothing about March.
Are there any Swedes here that could listen to it and confirm yay or nay? TIA
What do you think about the process taking the time it took?
- It is among the most frustrating with the whole thing, the processing concession is just one step in the process. Then comes the examination of the environmental permit, land allocation and finally the building and land permit. There are still 4-5 years left even after this decision, says Kurt Budge.
- We have invested SEK 80 million and will invest billions if the permits are granted. We want to grow with Jokkmokk for several decades.
From what I have seen in Sweden, it happens that Sami villages enter into agreements with mining companies, so it should not be impossible. I come with a good heart and believe that everyone who lives in Jokkmokk, including the Sami village, will benefit from the stimulus that a mining investment would mean.
How do you view the criticism and concern that heavy metals can leak out and pollute the Lule River?
- It is easy to use that argument if you are against the mine, but there is no scientific support for it. We meet all the requirements in the environmental regulations. In addition, the analysis has shown that there is a very "pure" ore in Kallak.
The appointment of the new Minister of Trade and Industry has provoked some reactions since he talked very well about the mining industry, and stated that he loves mines.
- I have never talked to him but I have noticed that he talks warmly about mines. But I have also noticed this from other parties across the political spectrum who believe that Sweden needs to produce more metals in order to become more self-sufficient and be able to meet the green transition, he says.
The Sami villages Jåhkågasska and Sirges, which use the area where the mine is planned, have always maintained that it is impossible to continue reindeer husbandry side by side with a mine in Kallak. But Kurt Budge says that the mining company still hopes to find a solution.
Minister of Trade and Industry Karl-Petter Thorwaldsson has promised that a notification of a processing concession can come as soon as possible after 2 February. Beowulf Mining's CEO Kurt Budge has longed for something.
- We have waited a long time for this, I am hopeful that we will finally get an answer. But I do not take anything out in advance because I have on several occasions previously thought that the government was ready to make a decision. I have thought that we as a company have done enough before, says Kurt Budge.
