RE: Santos / Barossa Problems24 Jan 2023 14:46
The fraught with danger pipeline, has long been various Woodside CEO's go to excuse
but Conoco Philips, who built and ran the Bayu-Darwin pipeline, did it's own studies
in the late 90's.
It concluded back then Bayu to Timor South Coast (further west than Beaco) was possible
and came up with a suspended bridge pipeline, below shipping but not directly connected
to the Trench/Seabed, using wires and blocks, that would negate the expected 4-5 metres
of seismic plate shift during its operational life.
Tech and materials have moved on in the past 25 years, if they could do it then, would suspect
Woodside on a dodgy wicket now, to say it can not be done. Phillips without the politics involved
now, had a meeting and put dollars over potential seismic problems. By the time the impasse
commenced, Pipeline etc in progress, Timor chose to take the money coming soon, than make
any challenges, its been their main funding since 2005, due to end very soon.
Hence the urgency and full court press on Woodside etc, to get a new field in motion, as a poster
said earlier, Chuditch can easily fill that funding gap, until the, last prediction of, Beaco can be
operational by 2030 statement and tenders , by Timor.
