"TheMoaningShark or should I say Oligarch…"
Unfortunately, I can't take any credit for this account. I did however come up with the suggestion of TheMoaneyShark or IHaveSeriousIssues as your next user name.....lol
Any chance that you could actually post something beneficial, you know something RM/GLS/IDS related for others on here to read instead of your usual hate filled drivel?
AngerSharkz, I filtered you out a few weeks ago as I was tired of wading through your absolute drivel to get to the decent posts. I unfiltered you yesterday as my screen was full of green messages, unlike the red messages on your shares ISA and I couldn't believe that you are still finding the hours every day to post your hatred filled nonsense on this, and other forums on LSE.
"Mangina".... really? That just confirms my thoughts that you are a teenager with a share ISA account, oh and your spread betting account. Remember, when the fun stops.....stop....
"There will be 90 days of political posturing.....and then changed will be made……end of this year? Next year? Two years?..... That's specific....not....I called this 18 months ago when the subject was first mentioned. I stated that making changes to the USO was not going to be a quick process and although time is relative, I believe that 18 months is a fairly long timeframe. Sunak has said that change isn't going to happen while he is PM so unless he is ousted before the next GE which will probably happen in several months time then that will kick the can down the road so it could easily be another year.
"The bottom line is change IS coming. End of story. In spite of all your pitiful whining you’re wrong. Again"........Who is whining? Certainly not me. I stated 18 months ago that I was on agreement with change however you are conflating a personal opinion with an Act of Parliament and it doesn't matter how stupid you think the Postal Services Act is, it is still de facto and there's nothing any of us can do about it.
"Ouch. Lol".......Did the WOSG hit you on the head on its way down last week?.....lololol
There was another news on GB News a bit later regarding surcharging of "fake stamps" whereby the new barcoded stamps are either deemed to be forgeries or have been reused. Many senders maintain that they have purchased their stamps from Post Office Counters, W H Smiths and other reputable high street outlets. Is this potentially the next scandal? Hopefully this will impact the manufacturers or vendors and not RM?
I was surprised that Andrew Pierce was in agreement with DW on GB News this morning especially given his dislike of Mick Lynch. It was also interesting to learn that Sunak has said that there will be no change to the USO while he is PM although DW put that statement down to politics rather than agreement.
On a different thread this morning, Hounddog stated that "....It will take about two years to get any change in. Consultation, decision, legislation, arguments with CWU, revisions etc., by which time letters will have fallen even further"........and to think that certain posters though that I was a pessimist.....lol
It's the same with IDS/RMG. He was buying at a fiver a pop in January 2022 when he was known as AngerSharkz and posting about how good the fundamentals were.....
To use one of his own phrases, "that aged well".....lol
Thankfully, his share ISA is limited to £20k pa so he can't do too much damage.....lol
Ade, I suspect that he's so deep underwater that he will need magic beans, a waterproof phone and a waterproof watch.......lol
""They are important for businesses and particularly publishers. The Prime Minister would not countenance seeing Saturday deliveries scrapped."
Funny how Derek was derided on this forum last year (and probably the year before) for posting exactly the same thing? Some didn't believe what he posted but it turns out that he was right?
Ade, I have always thought that it was morally wrong to let teenagers have a share ISA account. AngerSharkz must have seen the "green" number on his screen turn "red" last week? Fortunately AngerSharkz is a long term holder so the current SP isn't a concern and AngerSharkz is expected to live for at least another half century...... during which time WOSG might go back above a fiver again?
Incidentally, I assume that TMS is being as much of a bore/pain on WOSG as he is on the IDS forum?
By the way, any idea how many a "tranche" constitutes? Just asking for a friend.....
Salve Maximas, "not to sure if it was coincidence, but my share account flew up almost as much as stalkerspys IDS buying fund"..... I will assume that you didn't have a "tranche" (however many that is) in WOSG then....lol
It looks like the CWU aren't best pleased that OFCOM have leaked details of their report on proposed changes to the USO to the media over the weekend. I am however slightly bemused by the fact that media outlets such a Sky News and The Guardian are reporting on proposals to scrap Saturday deliveries (and possibly letter box collections by association) whereas the CWU are posting about letter deliveries "every other day". Thankfully, nobody has mentioned "Government subsidies".
I mentioned in May 2022 that changes to the USO were not going to happen "any time soon" and I stand by that because it still hasn't happened. What is clear is that there will be a 90-day call for input with formal proposals expected to be set out later this year which will then need to be debated and agreed in the House of Commons before a second reading before being passed as an amendment.
Therefore, I'm not expecting any changes to officially come into effect before the end of 2024 although the reality is that the customer will get a seamless transition.....
Redceo, reducing the letters delivery to five days would also be my choice. Although the data that's out there varies between £125m to £175m in cost savings it should still be enough for RM?
I can also see a scenario in the near future, possibly before 2030 where volumes will drop low enough to facilitate alternative day letter deliveries so perhaps that is something for OFCOM to also consider when getting the legislation rewritten? In my opinion, this is not going happen overnight as OFCOM will need to draft it's findings and proposals to Parliament, then it has to be presented and debated in Parliament, then depending upon the level of debate and objections it will need a second reading before being passed as an amendment.....all in a year where voting boundaries are changing and many MPs will be on the streets getting ready for the charm offensive on their new prey....I mean voters, so I think that it will be a tight squeeze to get the first reading heard before the end of the year.....not impossible though as emergency legislation (wars, terrorism etc) can be heard in 28 days.
Increasing stamp prices above inflation in my opinion isn't going to be received very well and judging by some of the comments online, last year's increase wasn't especially for the level of service that was provided.
The last thing that RM or IDS need is for the UK Government to get involved financially. In my opinion, this would be totally wrong especially as the parcels side is making a healthy profit and I'm sure that there would be opposition from some in the House of Commons.
I realise that there were calls for RM to be renationalised but the genie has been out of the bottle for too long now. As a shareholder, I realise that I invested in the current business model, I didn't invest hoping that the business model would be changed or for government intervention.
Redceo, given the potential options out there, which would you vote for?
Removing Saturday letter delivery, alternative day letter deliveries, increasing stamp prices, the UK taxpayer subsidising the USO or do you have an alternative?
Redceo, JB, yes... interesting times. There is plenty of coverage regard OFCOM looking at the USO and most of the speculation evolves around changing from six days to five days. Some have mentioned alternative day letter deliveries, increasing stamp prices and the UK tax payers subsidising the USO but until OFCOM issues it's recommendations then it's pure speculation.
Losing the Saturday letter delivery seems like the favourite and this would apparently realise a cost saving of between £125m and £175m depending upon the source. I'm not entirely sure how much profit RM are losing by providing the USO but hopefully it's in the right ballpark?
As a shareholder and UK taxpayer, everything about the UK Government getting involved to propping up the USO seems wrong and sends out the wrong message to investors, plus what would the UK Government want in return for a bailout, would it be seen as putting RM into special measures and how would this affect the SP?
Incidentally, with the voting boundary changes coming into effect and an election on the way, it is likely that the politicians voting on any changes won't be the same people that currently keep the green leather polished?
Redceo, I don't believe that it is manipulation however I do think that the big investors are wary especially given that the trading update wasn't that fantastic and employee/employer relations are still not brilliant?
Ispy, you couldn't make it up. Seidenberg gives out data to say that things are on the up......oh but can the taxpayers chip in some cash to a privately owned company...... bizarre....
One of the comments on This Is Money was
"Alan12021952, Barnstable, United Kingdom, 3 hours ago
They don't want to be a postal service they just want to be a highly profitable parcel delivery company. Sorry shareholders bought a postal service and the obligations that go with it".....
