As I understand it, the gas project involves pretty big money, so Genel will need to borrow for that at some stage. The stronger their balance sheet, the higher their equity valuation, the better, to put them in a strong negotiating position, 1/ re financial terms with funding sources, 2/ with a partner. Buy-backs bring back unfortunate memories, which I suspect they may not want to revive.

Not convinced a dividend is a good idea. Wold prefer they retain their cash so that their balance sheet is as solid as possible ahead of negotiations re their gas project.

A poster earlier today (I think it was) described Genel as a "class act". I think he's right. 290p = about 2/3rds of net book assets (about 425p). Personally, I can't see why the stock should be trading at a discount to net assets (but WTFDIK).
