Union Jack Oil has announced that planning permission for its Wressle development has been rescinded due to a need for further analysis of greenhouse gas emissions. The operator, Egdon Resources, will provide a new assessment to North Lincolnshire Council, which will determine whether a new environmental impact assessment is needed. Despite this setback, existing operations continue unaffected, and Union Jack retains its 40% stake in the project.

AN INDUSTRY TAXED OUT OF EXISTENCE BY THE U.K. GOVERNMENT.

LOOK AT THESE TWO TAX SCENARIOS.

1) Tesco (a major U.K. supermarket chain) recently announced its revenues over six months topped £31.5billion. It will pay 25% tax on its UK profits.

2) Over the same period, the North Sea's biggest oil and gas producer made £1.9billion, which is roughly 94% less than Tesco. The North Sea operator pays 75% tax on its UK profits, rising to 78% after the Budget today, because it is making 'windfall profits' in the eyes of government.

Does anyone else see the disparity?

This is nothing short of a strangulation of an industry and of the Northeast Scottish economy. Aberdeen is being bled dry.

The hypocrisy of a government which is willing to import and burn fossil fuels for existential energy generation but unwilling to support its home-grown hydrocarbon industry, to catch the newspapers headline for political point scoring is astounding.

Energy policy based on sentiment of the ill-informed is irresponsible and will have serious repercussions on a major industry and the regions which house it. There will however be no significant adverse affects for the policy-makers.

The new energy policy is to undertake a controlled demolition of the U.K. #oilandgas industry while not providing satisfactory energy security at home. It will not provide employment. It is quite simply a dereliction of duty.

If you are going to rely on hydrocarbons for your energy supply and so much more, have the courage to support a still profitable industry and its communities.

I have been in the Forties and Beryls as a third party employee for 13 years, and with the latest announcement its all doom and gloom out here, nobody is interest in their work, many already have CV sent every where, I hope with all the disinterest it doesn't become a safety concern.

Yes thats fantastic…We were told on Wednesday that the 8 platforms the company I work for, will cease production by around 2029, due to the winfall tax, and pressure from the green government, and with new legislation about flaring of gas coming in, its feared the bulk of the North Sea oil and gas platforms will cease production, this is a horrendous state of affair's with mass unemployment coming along with a severe energy shortage, and also a shortage of refined oil products in every day use, things a windmill cant produce, Kier Stammer makes Boris Johnston look good, and thats saying something, so for me and many thousands of oil workers the windmills dont cut it…

Yes remember the spiel, about the charts prediction for RR, was going below 50p…

And dont touch BP, whilst ells(maidit308) was banging the drum for this crooked lifestyle mob…

He's a trader that got spiked and been trying to suck others in continualy…
