Roundtable Discussion; The Future of Mineral Sands. Watch the video here.
Volumes have decreased massively since the shops 're opened and we could mix with family etc. Take some profit is my advice, get back in around £4 and enjoy a good divi return. Fingers crossed that the new parcel hubs bring massive efficiency savings. (I deliver only parcels for my depot and my workload is appx half what is was during lockdown). This will show in the next lot of figures, the excitement is over for now.
... Shorter working week was agreed before I started so i am not really that emotional about it, and only get paid for 30 hour week anyway as most new starters. Funny thing is the full timers hardly ever work a full day let alone a full week !! So are getting a much shorter working week than they are paid for anyway, in our office and many others the full timers walk out and refuse to work to there contracted hours, leaving the work for us part timers to do on overtime !! It says it all when you say that you would take £500 quid one off payment instead of working an hour less each week.... The old timers are not in the real world, can not wait for digital clocking in, will stop this historical inequality once and for all.
So I walk in this morning, and the first thing I get is "Hey did you get your £200 bonus, I did and the government took 30% stoppages!" Not bad when they paid everyone else to stay at home and let us continue to bring their **** from China to their doors. Anyway I got the bonus, so that was good. Next over the radio comes the announcement of job losses for managers... Our union rep hears it and reassures us all that we shouldn't worry because the union will fight it.... Oh dear, bit late ! ... So then one of our two managers says "I'm not surprised about redundancies i don't have anything to do for 4hours when you all go out each day !!!" Wow !! And then to top the shift off nicely.. The other manager kindly informs me that he received his bonus today... Its nearly £3000 he said and he knows some of the others got up to £5000.... I think if I had got that today, the least I would have done was swept up for 4 hours whilst us lot was out the way !! I love this job, its so entertaining... Goodnight
Anyway guys thank you for your incite.
I have been watching this forum for a few weeks now, I took a 12% profit on the last fall around the talk of IA.
Can't see it being so straight forward this time, i have re invested £6.8k at ave 183
I rarely chat on forums, don't really like too much conflict, been good tonight though cheers.
Would just like to say to Fruit if he reads this, thanks for your posts they are very informative for the novice.
Oli.
I agree that we are better off than the competition.
... Its certainly going to be an interesting few weeks.
we have about 25% staff at our office on 30 hour and less contracts, all new starters within a year. Most of which are saying they can not afford to take a day off, whichever whey they vote.. As they take home less than £300 a week.
Oligarch
Thank you.
Are you sure its the same pay ?? I think it's the same hourly rate but not the same pay ?
I am all for the work life balance so certainly agree with less for more, but just not sure we can push it too far ? As we have to compete in a rapidly changing market and the competition are ahead
Isleworth.
Thank you for your reply, and your wishes.
I guess my real fear is that of one that has happened to me before.
I won't bore you too much but say, the salvation army emp!oyed me to for 9 years on good terms and salery.
Then one day said the "business" sorry charity needed to change quickly, so within a week they issued new contracts and gave everybody the opportunity of a job that wanted one. On £3000 a year less and changed our job title and everything stayed the same.
In contrast the 6% pay deal seemed a nice comprise, and of course who knows if that may have been negotiated upwards by the cwu
Mad.
thank you for the reply, it matters to me to hear thoughts from the other side.
This may sound naive but isn't it too late to fight against privatisation ?
having gonads to cross picket lines is slightly threatening words wouldn't you say ? I just can't help but think that that type of fear has been instilled into the workforce over many years, and really not taken too serious from those of us that have had jobs in other organisations/industry.
Owning shares is I agree a risk I have taken, but from day one I was made to feel that I am part of something and why wouldn't I want to reap the rewards of my efforts in other ways other than just wages ?
I have a question and maybe you may be a good one to ask.
The shorter working week means senior staff on full time contracts get the same wages year on year for the next 4 years for no less pay ? But they give up 5 hours.
And as I am on a part time contract i will benefit as my hourly pay goes up pro rata ?
What happens in 5+ years if the business then can not afford an increase to the hourly rate... ?
Won't the full timers be wondering why they gave away 5 hours chargeable pay ?
Just asking as I am on 30 hours and 39 seems a better future than 35 ?
My second post.
I will be voting a big No.. Why ?
The CWU have held up the progress of this business for long enough... The programme for change from letters to parcels has started, millions of pounds already spent on new hubs and machinery, hold this investment up anymore and it would be suicide for everybody attached to RMG.. Investors and employees.
I am a 1 year in, 30 hour contract newbie (yes I know my thoughts don't count, that has been made clear a lot of late in my depot.. Because I am at the bottom of the seniority list !!! Ha ha ha as if any other corporation gives a **** about that type of hierarchy)
I have shares.. In fact I have a large % of my savings now invested, because I believe that RMG can become the best in the field, with both letters and parcel delivery.
Its time that RMG dinasours realise that the chairs they sit on during work time learning, chanting the cwu mantra, are not owned by the cwu nor the general public anymore. And RMG can and will pull them from under them at anytime and show them the door. This is corporate life.... Listen to to what they are saying its in their message to you "there will be a job for everybody within the group that wants one"
That says to me, if you don't like it here then go and volley parcels over gates for the competition at minimum wage.
To those who need a little lesson:
Why Do People Troll on the Internet?
Every internet troll has a different backstory and therefore different reasons for feeling the need to troll a community or an individual on the internet. They may feel depressed, attention-starved, angry, sad, jealous, narcissistic or some other emotion they may not be entirely conscious of that's influencing their online behavior.
What makes trolling so easy is that anyone can do it, and it can be done from a safe, isolated place as opposed to interacting with others in person. Trolls can hide behind their shiny computers, screen names and avatars when the go out trolling for trouble, and after they’re all done, they can carry on with their real lives without facing any real consequences. Trolling makes a lot of cowardly people feel stronger.
