I have just been reading an article that suggests geothermal stations in iceland produce helium as a by-product of heating and electrical production and that it may be financially viable to collect it instead of venting to atmosphere. Could it be the plan is to extract helium directly from geothermal waters whilst generating electricity or something similar ?. This is a common activity in oil production when a mixture of oil, water and gas is extracted and pumped through a separator . At the end of the day it is the helium that is important not necessarily whether it is free flowing as a gas or in a liquid .

Reading the board since the interview there seems to be some debate about the word discovery and the announcement of commercial quantities of helium , and why LB didn't appear to be more direct with her language . After watching lots more videos and presentations i think it would be fair to say lorna is a modest individual , and the reason she's not dancing on the desk is because she does not want to appear arrogant . Helium was actually discovered in tanzania years ago , and i believe lorna , being an academic , does not want to be seen to plagiarise her fellow geologists and the work done by Oxford and Durham universities .

Legalwolf, extended well testing is done to prove consistency of flow over an extended period of time and in some cases can be months . It is important to recognise that helium can migrate horizontally as well as vertically and not all measured helium is necessarily coming from the bottom of the hole .

Skittish, there is evidence that the salt lake beds act as a helium seal , similar to shale bed seals . If the salt beds are being disturbed by collection or rainy season then that could release helium .
