Yep, minimum wage increases and probably more so employers national insurance has been a big hit. I guess my point is if your competitive advantage is paying your employees less then you really don't have a competitive advantage and you'll struggle to retain decent staff. To me, B&m's competitive advantage lay in logistics, adaptability and negotiating highly competitive lease deals. That last part seemed to die post Aroras when the new store opening target was set.
I'm not expecting great news next week but hopefully green shoots in terms of stock turnover. Another 6 to 12 months and price increases in brown box departments will start to come through (as these prices are pre-printed).
