I guarantee the following, some based on surveys (which are the equivalent of a motley fool article);
Some here will have had injection damp proof courses installed. We’re one of the few countries that build using a dpm or dpc. Why? Because rising damp is a myth. Not once has it been re created in a lab. You can look this up if you like. But some here and many millions of others will have paid many thousands to have injection damp proof courses and cement based rendering installed (even on houses made with lime based mortar which can not ever take cement) that make the problem worse.
Many here will have had gypsum based plaster installed over lime based base coats despite it causing damp issues as it doesn’t breath like lime.
Many will have had a surveyor use a prong based electrical damp metre on their or a house they plan to buy despite them being useless due to salt content in old walls. Mortgage companies actually use these readings and ask for guarantees of works completed that exacerbate the problem. But surely not… mortgage companies are experts using expert advice. Wrrrrong.
Many will have paid a decorator thousands to paint their walls with vinyl based paint, again creating damp.
Many will have blocked up chimneys and had upvc windows installed on the advice of the government along with retrospective pumped installation into cavities with no weep joints or ventilation causing mold and damp due to lack of air flow. Same goes for blocking up eaves with loft insulation.
“Cracks caused by thermal expansion. Cracks to be filled with mastic.” I read this in a recent surveys report before exposing major subsidence in a property. That’ll be one thousand pound per cubic metre for underpinning thanks.
I’m on a job now where a wall was described as a load bearing brick wall…. It was fake plastic brick cladding over OSB. He was a structural engineer.
Shall I go on? Many people spend an absolute fortune on the advice of “experts”. Many many many more thousands than they invest. How many people buy houses which are total money pits because the none invasive survey is totally incorrect? They even come with small print saying they can’t be held responsible.

You rely on the kids in McDonalds to cook your burger properly so you don’t **** yourself to death. On doctors to not prescribe you poison. Life is about sharing information. So what If I mean on the likes of Bein, Rah, Monkshood, and even your narcissistic self for knowledge? I can make heads and tails far enough to know what’s to be avoided and what isn’t. Take this one on the chin. You’re talking complete crap.
