robleo, hope your shares pick up soon. It's always frustrating when a few of them have been underwater for a long time.
zac0_4, I dipped my feet in the water with funds last year but so far my individual share picks have been doing so much better. I'm only about 1% up on the funds since last July. I'm not tempted to put any more in as I view my individual picks as collectively a fund but without the charges.
"not to put too big a percentage of your portfolio into any one share or fund"
Generally agree with that sentiment, but it carries a slight problem in that most of your profit tends to come from relatively few shares, in my case AZN, DGE and RIO. But LGEN and AAL still doing okay. These top five earners make up well over 50 percent of my portfolio even though I tend to hold between 15 and 20 different shares. LGEN has the potential to take the top slot this year, and that's why it's currently at 12 percent of my portfolio.
Agree with you Pokerchips, company is in a good position with a good team. Nigel's retirement was no surprise due to his age. He was a very good runner too, for his age category, although he's not done much in the last few years. Hope he's ok.
When I first saw the drop I thought they had gone ex-dividend, but no - that's 2 March. Then of course I realised it was the RNS announcing good results. Some people are obviously taking 'sell on news' to extremes.
"this will be trading around 255 come December"
No, it's been too low for too long and will have to rerate at some time. I just took a look into the future and it turns out that it will be 394.50p at close on Friday 29th December 2023.
"FTSE is so ridiculously high. It’s only about 100 points off the all time ever high which I can’t get my head around given the cost of living crisis and high inflation rates"
Don't agree with that at all. The FTSE is still ridiculously low and has hardly gone up much in over 20 years. Also, high inflation will drive it up since if it didn't then all the listed companies would eventually become worthless (just like savings that don't keep pace), which they clearly are not.
