RE: RNS - thoughts.30 Sep 2024 10:12
There’s been a significant SP drop after an initially favourable response to the full year results. Mcfly raises some valid concerns. Although, the reality is that the CMA cannot specifically target corporate groups over independent practices with their very limited interventions. All recent UK CVS acquisitions were pre authorised in effect by the CMA so they can’t force sells on CVS. In addition, things like a limit on prescription fees will be sector wide and be a non entity in terms of financial impact. Ultimately, the CMA cannot control practice fees. Take a look at Petrol Stations - they only want fee comparison tools which will be pretty impossible for practices beyond very simple procedures.
The issue for me wrt CVS and all the corporate vet groups is the inept, unnecessary layers of middle management that provide poor value for significant costs.
As borrowing costs reduce, profit here will increase. I wonder whether CVS wants to be taken over by a bigger entity or private equity as an end point. The loss of senior vet executives recently is relevant and of concern IMHO. Is more going on behind the scenes?
