Interesting trading update from The Works this morning:

Sales in the 11 weeks since the end of the Period (October 31st) have remained strong, with a two-year LFL growth of 9.0%.

It was something and nothing really Kallumama.

Some retail commentator from The Telegraph (or equivalent) was talking about the plethora of retailer updates in the coming days. Charles Smith replied to the tweet saying something like 'and the main day of them all is 11th January'.

It just got me thinking that you wouldn't necessarily write a tweet like that unless the results were going to be good.

As I say, something and nothing really.

Charles Smith, The Chairman was tweeting about it earlier in the week. It's unsophisticated analysis, but it makes me think they will be quite good!!

Clothing stores reported an increase of 6.2% over the month with feedback from some retailers suggesting that early Christmas trading had boosted sales. This is supported by analysis within the Coronavirus and social impacts release, which reported that the most common items bought or pre-ordered earlier than usual for Christmas this year included toys and clothes, shoes or accessories. The latest rise means clothing stores sales are now only 0.5% below their pre-coronavirus pandemic level.

Good results from The Works this morning. Another decent read across to ShoeZone one would think.

Decent results from CARD today.

From the CEO "We continue to see improved performance of the business as customers steadily return to shopping in stores. This gives us confidence as we engage to realise the refreshed strategy and build our omnichannel offering"

I would have thought that CARD and SHOE have a similar shopper profile

Mediclinic reported a 12% rise in revenue for the first half, while group EBITDA margins recovered to 15.5% from 12.1% a year ago

Great results from Next today - let's hope for a read across in to Shoe

Spire Healthcare raised to overweight at Barclays

Really liking the fact that Tosca have added another 1.5%. Now at 16.9%. They voted down the takeover stating the price was too low.

From the M&S trading update: Clothing & Home has seen a good recovery in its performance. Revenue is up 92.2% on last year and down just -2.6% on 2019/20

Hopefully some read across in to Shoe.

Tosca building their stake even further. Now up to 15.4%

Interesting that ToscaFund (who rejected the bid) is up to 14% of Spire now.

At the start of the bid process back in May, they held 5.4% I believe

Tosca fund look to have pretty much doubled their holding. Presumably means that the deal has no chance of going through. That's circa 25% between Fidelity and Tosca, both declared to be in opposition.
