Highly unlikely as there is always more than one market maker competing for shares. Plus the many brokers I expect will have access through their clients to fill an order.
But I agree that the price may well go up to full fill the demand.
Plus you ignore that when a sale or buy is made from your account with a broker. He takes the cash from your account immediately and you receive a contract note with a delayed settlement date. Its a contract for the sale to a buyer and a buy to a seller. So each sale has a buy under contract. Its not fake news just common contract law.
