Look at the South African mines that are many miles deep... but even after 150 years still produce so of the highest grades in production...as you know

You need to trade BOO or IQE....billion pound PROFITABLE companies that are quite volatile.
Move up and down daily with swings of 2/3/4/5% or more
Very tight spread and NO stamp to pay....so great to trade

requires a huge deposit of fairly consistent grades concentrated in one large area.

Depth doesn't matter too much apart from costing more to scrape away to extract from an open cast mine.
AND reasonable grades throughout the deposit of course
These hot spots that sent the price higher are hopeless unless they are productive to mine med/long term

There were ONLY 5.51bn shares in 2000, 5.6bn in 2005, 5.97bn in 2008, 63.8bn in 2009, 68bn in 2010, 70.3bn in 2012, and 71.4bn in 2013. Recently the number appears to have stabilised more.
