From a Stobart perspective, I suspect they do not really want to own Flybe even on the cheap, as they have plenty of their own demands for their cash. But need Flybe to keep operating out of Southend Airport (Their main/largest asset) a collapse, especially in peak summer season would be a major headache.
Leaving them in the unenviable position of negotiating with say Ryanair from a weak position over suddenly available slots when they are already under pressure to seriously expand Southend.
