Bitcoin dropped below the $45,000 mark following fresh comments from Tesla CEO Elon Musk.
According to a new Twitter thread, Musk suggested his electric vehicle company either sold or is selling the rest of its Bitcoin holdings, sending the price of the popular cryptocurrency lower.
Bitcoin was down 4.25% to $44,859 at 5:06 pm ET.

Coinbase Global Inc. published on Thursday its first-quarter earnings results, saying that the number of the platform's verified users annually jumped 67.7% to more than 56 million. The exchange's total revenue skyrocketed over nine times to $1.8 billion in the same period, while net income surged from $32 million to $771 million.
"Quarter to date for Q2 2021 we have seen a continuance of the strong crypto price cycle with high prices of many crypto assets, high levels of volatility and high interest in crypto across retail and institutional users," Coinbase noted commenting on the outlook for the second quarter.
Coinbase stocks lost 2.69% in the after-hours trading to sell for $257.98 following the earnings announcement.
