Jerry Lee Lewis was the original wild man of rock'n'roll.
On stage, he performed in a state close to frenzy. A savage, raw energy burning within him, he hammered the keyboard like a man possessed.
His life was a toxic ****tail of scandal, addiction and violence. Two of his seven wives died in suspicious circumstances; another was barely more than a child.
This was the man who - legend has it - once drove to Graceland, high on alcohol and pills, with a gun on the dashboard. "Come out," he said to Elvis Presley, "and we'll soon find out who's King."
Lewis was disgraced many times. But those early tracks - A Whole Lotta Shakin' Goin' On and Great Balls Of Fire - were so deeply part of the soundtrack of the 20th Century, that he never quite faded from the scene.
Sixty years after their recording, he still played to packed houses. And somehow - despite the drink and drugs - Lewis outlived many fellow rock'n'roll pioneers.

Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council Dmitry Medvedev congratulated billionaire Elon Musk for sealing the deal with Twitter Inc. in a tweet on Friday.
"Good luck @elonmusk in overcoming political bias and ideological dictatorship on Twitter," wrote Medvedev, before asking Musk to "quit that Starlink in Ukraine business," referring to the billionaire's decision to allow Ukraine's access to satellite-enabled Internet for free after the Russian invasion.
Musk acquired Twitter Inc. today, tweeting "the bird is freed", a hint at the company's logo, in a self-proclaimed effort to make the company as inclusive as possible.

Former United States President Donald Trump showed on Friday, on his Truth Social platform, support for billionaire Elon Musk's recent takeover of Twitter Inc., writing that the social media platform is now "in sane hands."
"I am very happy that Twitter is now in sane hands, and will no longer be run by Radical Left Lunatics and Maniacs that truly hate our country," Trump shared. He also said that "Twitter must now work hard to rid itself of all of the bots and fake accounts that have hurt it so badly."
Previously, Musk stated that he bought Twitter in order to "help humanity" and give it a "common digital town square" where opinions can be shared "in a healthy manner."
