It would have gone ahead under the BNP when they were in power, before Hasina got in. It was stalled because she made the statement not to mine it as an electoral promise. Not to mention all her corruption that took place after.

The BNP are odds on favourites to win the election.

The Interim government has also began discussions regarding the project as they want to do a lot of the groundwork before the new party (BNP) get into power.
