Our latest Investing Matters Podcast episode with QuotedData's Edward Marten has just been released. Listen here.
Interesting to see what people are saying but am amazed that people are considering throwing more of their money into this pit.
As a wealth destruction venture HUR is up there along with most of the smaller oilers.
It's grown from 60p recently to 20p.
Great - I'm back in.
Given that HUR is going the way of most small oilers, do people really think they'll make money here? I mean, REALLY?
I've come to realise it's folly investing in the likes of Shell given the 15-20% it's possible to get with US or global funds.
OK we get a 5% dividend but growth is flat over the years.
Thing is - what opportunity/appetite is there for a small oil producer when there is already an overproduction and glut of oil, reducing oil price and anti fossil fuel sentiment?
It got to £12 I think during the financial crash. Maybe heading there again due to an oil market crash, coupled of course with the fact that I have a large holding. In a way it's flattering to have such an influence on so many share prices.
If you look at the 6% or so gap down earlier, followed by a recovery, it looks like MMs trying to take stops out. there can't be a re-assessment of sp value in that time.
As an aside, why do we invest in high risk ventures like HUR when you can average around 15% a year in something like Fundsmith? It would be interesting to have some stats on how many PIs lose on the stock market. I guess people who invest in the likes of HUR think they can win.
ShareNicely - I think the buys/sells are probably fairly accurate as the spread is 2%.
Clearly investors are dumping the stock in large chunks.
As I've already mentioned, this will only be reversed if I sell up too.
NT reiterates the foolishness of small oilers.
Only those who game the sp movements AND ARE LUCKY will do ok.
I can't see it reaching an all time high.
It's down today along with others from BP to HUR.
Despite the bad numbers, ihe drop isn't as bad as the drop in VOD - indicating general market sentiment.
If you don't need the money and reinvest the dividends than a period of low sp is a good thing.
Somehow though, I fear that period might be for ever...
