Georgian article -"Another US congressman has joined sanctions on Georgia"14 Feb 2020 07:28
FRR gets a brief mention -
"Another US congressman, a member of the Republican Party, Charles Fleischman, joined the US sanctions on Georgia. He is the fifth American lawmaker to back Congressman Marquin Malin's initiative.
Republican Marquin Malin, a member of the US House of Representatives, has sent a letter to the Georgian Prime Minister, Giorgi Gakharia, expressing his concern about the deviation from democratic values ??and the worsening economic situation. One example of business harassment is cited by oil and gas company Frontera Resources, which is suing Georgia for international arbitration.
Malin drafted the Georgia Fair Business Practices Act in 2019, but his fellow congressmen began supporting the act more than a year ago.
The document obliges the US president to report to Congress whether Georgia is in breach of any obligations or agreements it has made with US businessmen in Georgia. Also, notify the current or former officials who are responsible for it. If violations of the rights of American businessmen are found, the President should impose sanctions on the Georgian government and officials.
In the past two months, the Georgian government has received critical letters from US congressmen and senators. The letters raised concerns over ongoing events, the dissolution of rallies, the collapse of the proportional system and the persecution of opposition politicians, and suggested that the partnership between Georgia and the United States might be in question."
