it appears that profit is a dirty word to some. You can make X amount and pay taxes due but if you make X+Y you can pay taxes due on that but in addition pay an extra charge of Z.

oh dear - I don't believe that the UK has passed a law to say that our inflation rate has to be higher than elsewhere -if we have it has failed.
I have also stated before that you cannot do a direct comparison between countries regarding inflation rates as the baskets that make up the index will be different. An inflation rate using the same basket is the relevant figure for that country using it.

Borrowers have had very very cheap money for about a decade with savers bearing the cost. If any lender and/or borrower did not factor in that rates could go back to historical normal levels at some time, then I have ZERO sympathy.
