Strange comment - the fund managers are there to produce income - dividends paid to shareholders are covered by income and in fact HFEL have a dividend reserve fund if for any temporary reason that is not the case.

That was introduced (estate duty) at the end of the 19th century well over a hundred years after the Monarchy gave up the crown estate income.
The law doesn't allow for the Monarchy to pay certain taxes, but in 1992 the late Queen voluntarily started to pay income tax and capital gains tax.

We have had a certain someone on here saying that they themselves should pay more tax but reluctant to go down the voluntary route

I look at it differently, and maybe others should too.
It is now called the 'Sovereign Grant'.
A long time ago an agreement was made whereby the monarchy would receive a reliable source of income from government in return for giving up the income from the crown estate., .
Had they not given up the income from the crown estate then the Monarchy would be far better off now.
The 'Sovereign Grant' now in fact is based upon a percentage of the crown estate income . Was 15%, then 25% but due to go back to 15% of Crown profits.
So the bottom line is that due to the agreement the taxpayer has been a net recipient of money from the Monarchy.

the shares bought for 242.5p on 27th Oct for 264p

has risen from under 1.13 on Monday and now heading closer to 1.18 against the US dollar
