The UK Consumer Price Index has risen by 3.2% YoY in August, above 2.9% expected. On a monthly basis, CPI is up 0.7% vs. 0.5% that was predicted. Core CPI rose by 3.1% yearly, also above 2.9% projected. Other measures also exceeded estimates.

The UK jobs market continues to recover, according to the latest employment data from the Office for National Statistics

British employers added record a 241,000 staff to their payrolls last month, taking the total number of payrolled employees to just above the level they were before Britain first went into a COVID-19 lockdown last year, government figures showed on Tuesday.

Separate official data showed the unemployment rate was 4.6% in the three months to July, the Office for National Statistics said,a small fall in line with economists' expectations in a Reuters poll.

Tuesday's data show continued recovery in Britain's job market as the government phases out its furlough support programme, which will finish on Sept. 30.

“This year’s survey emphasises the belief in London as a global centre for trade and finance as firms anticipate and adapt to the new regulatory environment,” said Adrian Walkling, head of financial services at Lloyds Bank Commercial Banking.

Confidence improving
Compared to the same time last year, the firms surveyed by Lloyds were significantly more confident about the growth of the British economy and the UK financial sector’s prospects.

The vast majority (88 per cent) expected British economic growth to improve over the next year, up from just a fifth (20 per cent) in 2020, while 32 per cent believed the UK will achieve stronger growth than other G7 nations, up from just 7 per cent last year.
