HEATHROW Q1 FINANCIAL RESULTS26 Apr 2022 08:28
Heathrow welcomed 9.7 million passengers in Q1 2022 which was in line with our forecasts. January and February were much weaker than expected due to Omicron-related travel restrictions, while March demand increased after the unexpectedly quick removal of all UK travel restrictions halfway through the month.
However, while passenger numbers are looking more positive, we will not return to profit in 2022. Although Q1 2022 revenue climbed to £516m and adjusted EBITDA turned positive to reach £273 million, we made a loss of £155m loss (after tax). This is due to additional costs such as interest, tax, depreciation and amortisation. Out total pandemic losses have now topped £4.0 billion.
Over Easter this year, we saw a surge of last-minute bookings following the lifting of UK travel restrictions. Thank you to all colleagues for your hard work over this period. We put in place a plan and successfully delivered it, helping millions of people get away on their journeys. This resulted in many passengers commenting about how smooth their journeys through Heathrow were over this period, with over 95% of passengers through security within 5 minutes.
