I don't think it's a question of competence [not making statements]. In the recent meeting, they said they cannot make statements about the transaction until something material changes. The issue here is the sunk costs one. Pulling out now would severely damage the strategy and hence their credibility.

I am interested in better understanding if we can repatriate any of the Egypt profit if the deal fails. Its all very well making a large profit on SD [I d not have the figures for individual assets but I understand that its a relative cash cow], but unless the company can put that cash to work we are hamstrung.

Much as most on this board hate to admit it, the global interest needs to come before the national interest. Yes of course we can argue the environmental burden is disproportionally felt and yes, the school year argument that X or Y isn't behaving in a decent way so why should we. But frankly, there are plenty of other oilers to buy in less regulated domains if you so wish.

Does anyone care to comment on what a so-called "extension" of the windfall tax would mean?

4.5 would be rejected out of hand post-SD deal as the deal itself we know is more than 75% of the cap, which is more than 4.5p in cash alone!

The danger here is 1. The deal doesn't happen [unlikely given the comms up until this point] and then 2. The new management team fritters the proceeds away on OPEX and spurious solar projects!
