A bit difficult to explain without a drawing.
If the riser is not down they use both top drives, one for drilling and the AUX for running casing in open hole.
If the BOP is down and riser connected to the rotary table they cannot use the AUX top drive for anything down hole. It has nothing to do with power but the position of AUX rotary and with it not being connected to the Riser.
Yes it is a dual activity rig but sometimes that does not help with certain failures in equipment.
Longest I have seen a top drive out of action for in 18 years was fixed in 2 days with a new service loop fitted.
So the info from this aces bar in my opinion is crap. Who are the boys anyway??
