Shorting27 Feb 2019 09:52
This is NOT a correct definition of Shorting; I just read it on a bb by another pi. He's wrong.
''Tell me how selling a position with intent to buy lower is not a form of shorting , you don’t have to lend shares from anybody but yourself , if you own 100 grand of shares at 135 and sold waiting for a drop with the intention of buying back. That is shorting your own stock if you intend to buy back. If you believe the companies fundamentals have gone negative like yourself and me but see it as then having value lower down and you buy back this to me is shorting. Not without risk.''
Errrr, this is called Trading!
To short, one has to have a position in the stock. In the above example, there is no position. You are simply waiting to buy at a lower price (which means you're long in any case!) to sell at a higher price. By waiting for a lower price having had the sense to have banked profits at a higher sp means you just did a trade. That is NOT shorting.
What's the point..................!
