about £200k of buyback left i reckon on the back of a *** pack. they have averaged around 250k a day since restarting so at current levels so should be done by the end of next week i guess.

Cable bought in on the first warning so might have considered the risk reward of there just being a delay in orders so perhaps were longer term in outlook….they are now in a hole. Milkwood bought in when the CEO was going and any prospect of near term revenue had gone too. They are not in it for backing anything they are in it to get a controlling interest and extract as much value that is left out of it as possible and maybe end up with a vehicle with prospects of actually making some money. As to the shares touching 13p , Milkwood bought most of their holding sub 10p when the company share buyback was paused again..so they have quite a few cheap ones have now cleared up 8% of the shares..maybe more now. After they declared the company started buying aggressively again..so that plus the very presence of an activist has led the price back up..nothing to do with the company’s prospects..because without corporate action there isn’t any.

The cherry was rather poor and there ended up being no cake ..

The arguments put forward that they folded because they wanted to move on because there was a far bigger prize in the huge growth potential in the organic business quite clearly have been proved wrong. We were told of multiple opportunities in sensors and display leveraging of the validation of the IP ..so far we have got a one off order for at most $200k….but have spent significantly on capex and doubled the cost base …abject failure.

Find a case settled pre trial that involved wilful infringement that led to a very meaningful competitive advantage ( big premium pricing) with $10bs of products actually sold just in the US…that is in any way comparative. The patents were upheld all the models upheld there is no comparison to make.

They may wait under the current management release the full year accounts before going more hostile if that is required ..I would as the cash from the second tranche has depleted rapidly so get them to sign off on their watch.

They will be talking to other shareholders …like Cable Car ..another activist who jumped in thinking the ‘delay’ in orders presented an opportunity , I imagine they now join an already pee’d off shareholder base and will be looking for a plan to restore value.

If you think someone like Milkwood jump in with both feet into a company chewing through shareholder cash at a rate of knots without immediately engaging in an activist playbook then maybe you don’t follow these type of moves closely…I do.

I have a lot of faith in my view on what will transpire here.

As to having another throw of the dice in its current form ..maybe they find a management that doesn’t want to run away first …then come up with a strategic plan …months and months whilst getting through more cash. If there was a realistic prospect of generating meaningful commercial revenues from sales or licences in the next few years maybe different but I don’t see where that comes from.

Milkwood own over 8% and shares bought back into treasury or cancelled do not vote.

So buybacks increase their voting interest.

I imagine Milkwood will be sharing the vision of rescuing so value from this situation and I can imagine many are looking for a plan to restore some value as there is no leadership or plan in place…credibility in coming up with one also quite a challenge after the concentration and subsequent failure of delivering near term revenues with their key partner in key commercial area. We have gone from guidance of cash flow breakeven 2025 to burning £7m in the current FY…ain’t a small miss and another dead end.

I’m not sure apart from a few deluded individuals who would support further gambling with the remaining shareholder funds.

I agree NGR that as a listed vehicle Nanoco could be used to reverse another business in but they can only even think of it being a cash shell if they stop the burn and tidy it up hopefully for a decent positive by disposing of the QD business ..bit like Nanosys did they sold the operating side and IP to Shoei but not the holding company. ..that might well suit any buyer anyway. If they find a buyer for the assets that might include the staff or key members who might be happier with a larger competent owner.

Seems to me Milkwood want a listed investment vehicle more than anything ..not an investment in an extremely loss making failed technology play with few near term prospects of getting any commercial revenue so hence they will be already in discussions on the future of the business and listing.

If they could end up with 15-20p cash per share and transform into an investment vehicle run by a highly successful fund manager maybe that might be far more backable than another spin of the dice in QDs after so many years of failing to gain any commercial traction and running down blind allies. Maybe NP might want to buy parts of the QD portfolio get some backing and start again and start again ?

The idea of Nanoco buying any complementary assets to add to its loss making activities seems a complete non starter.

They may just look for the for sale sign to be hoisted to see if there is interest but that can not be relied on so there must be an alternative game plan to extract value imo ..these guys are not playing and will have done their research on possible scenarios…lets hope they are fully aligned with other shareholders.

Long term investors back the management and a realistic business plan of a company ..Nanoco has nether the management are off and the business model is in tatters ..it has cash and likely disposable assets predominantly in the form of their IP portfolio which could result in a near term boost in value against current levels. No activist will sit back on the current state of affairs and wait for someone to be appointed or come up with a plan as shareholder funds fly out nthe door…£7m pa fixed cost base and £800k pa of genuine r &d revenue is not sustainable over any period.

They ain’t going to sit still…there is no effective management at Nanoco the ceo and the chair are off..they are hardly backing the management..and It could take months to find replacement ceo in the meantime they retain a large cash burn.

They clearly see the potential of liquidating the business through trade sale of the company or its IP adding to the cash pile. What they do then might be the question…it seems clear from some recent activity Milkwood want a listed cash shell for an investment vehicle.

Lets see.

The only real income has come from demonstrating the patents are valid and were infringed upon really..and that seems a one off. Some of those patents are now running to the end of a 20 year life with virtually no commercial production orders and the patents are owned by the company. Many long term scientists left after the Apple walk , their names remain on the companies patents but the patents remain the companies.

I’m not sure the threat of anyone leaving will impact what happens here..I doubt any new strategy will involve more speculative r&d with no guarantee of end markets after over 20 years of being an academic exercise that will be the main change I imagine. Maybe someone might want to buy out an expensive QD r&d lab and team…but I can’t imagine who off hand.

Sum of the parts…it can’t carry on chewing through cash with no real sustainable revenues.
