Infrastructure and business services Group Mouchel's Regulated Industries business has provided a Drought Mitigation Plan for one of its biggest clients, Thames Water, after the water company announced plans to impose a 'Temporary Use Ban' on water use across South East England.
The ban goes further than previous years and prohibits drawing water through a hosepipe (or similar equipment) or filling and maintaining domestic swimming pools, paddling pools or ornamental fountains.
Groundwater in some parts of the South East is close to the lowest levels ever recorded after one of the driest two-year periods since records began in 1884 – only 1892-3 and 1920-1 had less rain.
Mouchel's Divisional Manager Utility Services, Peter Roberts, said: "Our role not only involves drafting a Drought Mitigation Plan, but we are also responsible communicating wise water use to the wider public."
