US transportation security agency adopts ThruVis imaging from Digital Barriers

The US Transportation Security Administration (TSA) has adopted a specialised camera technology that can detect weapons and explosives hidden beneath clothing.
Called ThruVis the technology has been developed by Digital Barriers, a London-headquartered provider of video, people screening and video analytics for applications and areas such as surveillance, security and public safety.
The TSA used ThruVis during Christmas 2016, one of America’s busiest travel periods and also at national security special events in early 2017.
TSA awarded the $1.65m contract to Digital Barriers in September last year to help the agency in its job to protect mass transit systems and other public spaces across the US against ‘soft target‘ terrorist attacks.
ThruVis is a unique camera technology that can detect dangerous objects and contraband concealed by clothing. The technology is mobile, can be rapidly deployed and operates without compromising passenger throughput, safety or privacy in places such as stations and airports.
Feedback and input from TSA’s own extensive testing is being used to enhance and improve ThruVis’s operational capabilities.
