JM reports that a Venezuelan is one of four people who are hospitalized in the Multipurpose Unit dedicated to COVID-19 at the main Dr Nélio Mendonça hospital in Funchal. This, at this moment, is the most serious case of COVID-19 in the Region, with the remaining three people remaining in that unit all stable and not requiring ventilator support.
The patient is hospitalized after having tested positive as an imported case on the 15th of this month. The man arrived from Venezuela not long ago, and performed the test on arrival in Madeira, as part of the surveillance activities implemented at Madeira Airport. The test was initially negative, but days later the man began to experience symptoms and was tested again on a second trip to the hospital.

Even if you could produce and administer 2 x 8 billion vaccinations, there will still be outbreaks of infection for years to come. Even if your test everyone, every day, there will still be undetected cases, like the above, who can wander around a city for days, infecting others, before they show symptoms.
