Listing on a prestigious exchange can enhance a company’s visibility and credibility, potentially lifting share value. A study from 1990–2006 showed firms cross-listing on more prestigious markets (e.g., NYSE) enjoyed valuation gains over five years, while those on less prestigious markets faced discounts. The ASX is reputable, and for GGP, with its Australian assets (Havieron and Telfer), the listing aligns with its operational focus, possibly signaling growth potential.
However, the same study notes that the home market’s reputation matters. Since GGP is already on AIM, a market for smaller growth companies, the ASX listing may not be seen as a significant prestige upgrade, potentially limiting positive price reactions.
