"Mr Nelson is believed to be leaving for personal reasons.
Mr Nelson, a geologist by training, was the face of Pan African and he has been replaced by joint interim CEOs, Cobus Loots, a director, and Ron Holding, the chief operating officer.
Mr Holding said: "It’s going to be difficult without him and we’ll miss him a lot, but we’ll carry on. We’ve got to concentrate on the ball, which is production, production, production."
Both Mr Nelson and Mr Holding worked at Evander, making them well placed to realise what the mine and un-mined resources had to offer, an analyst said.
The Evander deal doubles Pan African’s production at a stroke to 200,000oz. Pan African is close to commissioning the Bramber tailing treatment project at its Evander mine, which will add another 20,000oz of production from the middle of the year.
Mr Holding said Mr Nelson would remain available for consultation."
