The spread is the difference between the buy and sell price, wider the spread the more commission the broker makes, might also be a liquidity issue i.e. not many buying and selling. Is the their manipulation yes how far does it extend is anybody's guess. Prepare to see your investment loose value, long term should be ok on the aim
