Conference feedback20 Sep 2019 15:19
Time for my feedback. Sorry it's taken a while to post but had very long Thursday and busy this am shopping for curtains (living the high life!!!).
The conference was in Hall 3a at the NEC which is a pretty big hall in general. There were a lot of exhibitors present and the joint AFC/MSP area was very nicely positioned next to the EV lecture theatre which seemed to be the busiest of the lecture theatres in operation. It was a small stand but similar size to a lot of the exhibitors. Saldy there was no AB present as he'd only attended on the Tuesday according to the AFC rep present who was a very nice chap I spend just under 1/2 hour chatting with. Also there was no CH2ARGE unit on show. This is beacuse it is still not complete but is expected to be competed in the next 1-2 months which fits with the Q4 launch.
MSP have been a partner since much earlier in the year. They provide the battery technology which is needed for the unit. Essentially the H2 will be fed into fuelcells at a constant optimal rate that will charge the MSP batteries. The batteries will then be used for charging vehicles and can be done fairly rapidly although no times were given. H2 will initially come from H2 cylinders/tank for the demo unit but in time the plan is likely for ammonia to be used. Ammonia is 9x less volume than compressed H2 gas and it is also able to be transported in simple HGV setups whereas H2 transoprtation is more complex and costly. The demo unit will initially be stationed at dunsfold but will the be transported around the country by HGV for various planned roadshows.
There was talk of car parks, off grid etc locations. Although grid charging units are cheap, a lot of carparks would require significant investment in it's supply to allow units to be installed which helps AFCs cause.
Costs etc were not available but there had been some good interest during the 3 days. I had to wait 30 minutes before I got to chat to the MSP and AFC reps. The partnership appeared very strong and both parties were clearly very excited that the demo unit would soon be up and running!
I came away very positive and also got hints that there was some other significant stuff going on in the background with big clients that couldn't yet be discussed.
Still patience is required but I truely believe this quarter we will finally see a product the AFC can finally showcase and take orders for. At this point we may start seeing some revenue on the balance sheets!
I hope this reassures some of you.
GLAH,
Jim
